Ibrahima Diallo and Sékou Koundouno, two prominent civil society leaders in Guinea, were violently arrested on Friday, March 06. Both Diallo and Koundouno are outspoken advocates for freedom and democracy in Guinea and they are leaders in the National Front for the Defense of the Constitution (FNDC), a popular movement organizing against a potential third term for President Alpha Conde. The circumstances of their arrests were outlined in a communique by the FNDC.

Since October, Guineans have showed up in great numbers to protest a constitutional amendment that would allow Conde to extend his tenure as president. In light of the mounting protests, security forces have continued to crackdown on Guineans exercising their constitutional rights. Diallo and Koundouno are two of many activists in the country that find themselves targeted and violated for speaking their voices.
